My calendar notifications won't go away.

Even when I close the calendar events they pop right back up and it makes a sound. Some days it just beeps incecently. I've tried changing preferences so that they aren't "push notification" but the only way I can get it to stop is by deleting the event from my calendar. So annoying! I cannot figure out how to get rid of the alert windows! The block the view of my browser and all of my calendar events are duplicated. 😕

This wasn't a problem before I downloaded Mavericks. Help!
